Dr. Brian Mustanski is one of the first to study a group of LGBT youth over time to learn about what contributes to their suicide attempts.

At a conference hosted by the president and Vice President Biden, AFSP joined 200 representatives from the not-for-profit health sector and others to discuss ways to reduce stigma and help the millions of Americans struggling with mental illness recognize the importance of reaching out for assistance.

On June 1, nearly 2,000 people—survivors of suicide loss, those with depression and other mental illnesses and suicide prevention advocates—joined together in the nation’s capital for AFSP’s 2013 Out of the Darkness Overnight walk.
