Washington Area Director

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) seeks qualified candidate for the position of Area Director for Washington. The Area Director is responsible for organizing and implementing the Chapter’s signature Out of the Darkness walks and other fundraising, board development and programmatic activities throughout the state. Specific responsibilities include recruiting, organizing, and supervising volunteers for local events, attending to logistical details, securing sponsorships, supervising the actual events, and financial oversight. Position will work out of a home office and must be willing to travel throughout the state.

Qualifications

Five years experience with a demonstrated track record of conducting financially successful fundraising events in a national nonprofit organization, preferably a health-related organization with chapters. Demonstrated skills in volunteer recruitment and development and budgeting and planning. Bachelor’s degree with strong interpersonal and communications skills required.  Experience as a staff person working with nonprofit Boards preferred.

Senior Director of Individual, Corporation and Foundation Giving

AFSP is seeking an experienced professional for this newly created position.  This position will report to the Vice President of Development and Field Management. 

The Senior Director of Individual Giving will establish objectives, strategies and relationship building for our Planned Giving Program.  Reporting to the Vice President, he/she will be responsible for identifying individuals that are capable of making significant gifts of $1,000+ to AFSP as welling as plan development for the cultivation and solicitation of these prospects.  He/She will also assist the Chapters in the development of a gift program at the local level. He/She will establish relationships with Foundations and Corporations that are potential donors and identify programs and projects that might attract the support of particular foundations, corporations as well as sponsorships.

Qualified candidates that are considered for this position will have a minimum of seven years of successful experience in Individual, Corporation and Foundation Giving in a nonprofit health agency.  Public speaking, strong written and oral communications and excellent interpersonal skills are essential. Bachelor’s Degree required.

Out of the Darkness Walk Coach

REPORTS TO:  Manager, Out of the Darkness Overnight

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Out of the Darkness Walk Coach is the front-line customer relations representative for the Out of the Darkness Walk series, and is responsible for meeting and exceeding recruitment, retention, and fundraising goals under the guidance of the Out of the Darkness Walks Manager and Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with OOTD walk participants and AFSP Field Staff to increase fundraising and retention outcomes by providing excellent customer service, and technical, fundraising, training, and event support
  • Conduct sales communications with the goal of converting leads (RFIs) to walk the Overnight using designated sales procedures and protocols
  • Host fundraising workshops and informational meetings (via phone, webinar, and in-person)
  • Assist in logistics to help walk events run smoothly from start to finish
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • This position is based in NYC

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree. Experience working in nonprofit fundraising or sales preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Computer skills required: Internet Research, Microsoft Office programs. Previous CRM experience is helpful, but not required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
