AFSP Attends Reception Honoring the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors

On Wednesday, June 11, AFSP Manager of Federal Policy Trevor Summerfield and Public Policy Associates Connor Jobes and Ariel Wampler attended a reception honoring the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) hosted by Senator Mark Begich, Deborah Bonito (Co-Chair of the Congressional Spouses for Suicide Prevention and Education), and TAPS Founder and President Bonnie Carroll. Special guests Vice President Joe Biden and Dr. Jill Biden were also in attendance.

AFSP was able to meet personally with the Vice President and share with him AFSP’s appreciation for his and Dr. Biden’s commitment to our nation’s military personnel, veterans, and their families. In addition we asked the Vice President to do all that he can to prevent suicide among these communities.

AFSP looks forward to continuing its work with the Vice President, Congress, and the Obama Administration to prevent suicide and improve the mental health care of our military personnel, veterans, and their families.
