Legal Action Center Releases FAQs on Recently Released Federal Parity Regulations

11/29/2013

The Legal Action Center (LAC) has developed easy to read FAQs on the Paul Wellstone and Pete Domenici Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA), also known as the federal parity law, which seeks to eliminate discriminatory access to mental health and substance use disorder (MH and SUD) benefits in certain health insurance coverage.

MHPAEA became Public Law 110-343 in October 2008. On November 8, 2013, the U.S. Departments of Labor, Treasury, and Health and Human Services released final rules implementing the law.

The LAC FAQ includes resources to help you learn more about the MHPAEA, the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the new policies and regulations that are in place to better address the critical insurance coverage for mental health and addiction disorders.
