Phoenix, Arizona - January 28, 2014

Arizona’s second annual State Capitol Day event was a big success!  Attendees completed 62 face-to-face meetings with legislators, which allowed AFSP-Arizona to continue the important work of bringing awareness to lawmakers about the serious problem of suicide and depression in our communities and state.  More specifically, it allowed us to make the case for the importance of suicide awareness and intervention training for teachers and administrators as event participants advocated for Arizona House Bill 2605.  Since, AZ HB 2605 has been adopted into law, and now requires the Arizona state board of education to adopt rules to allow certified teachers and administrators to count suicide awareness and prevention training programs as continuing education credits.  Many thanks to each of our AFSP-Arizona Chapter volunteers and Field Advocates who came to Phoenix for the event and who helped garner the support needed for AZ HB 2605 to be signed into law!
