Out of the Silence: Medical Student Depression and Suicide
Out of the Silence is a 15-minute video that was designed specifically as an educational tool for medical schools. Since many of the mood disorders that can lead to suicide may first become evident during medical school, where professional and institutional barriers already exist, the goal of this program is to encourage help seeking behavior.
Struggling in Silence: Physician Depression and Suicide Community Resource Video
Struggling in Silence CRV is a 15-minute video that compiles the profiles of the three doctors from the documentary who struggle with mood disorders. This program is designed for use in hospitals, residency training and at educational conferences and seminars.
Both videos include resource materials and discussion guides that can be downloaded from this website. The video programs can be ordered through the AFSP Store.
Medical schools across the country are incorporating Out of the Silence into orientation sessions, lectures about mental illness and wellness programs for students.
