AFSP and HBO Partner for Special Screening of 'Boy Interrupted'
Boy Interrupted is an HBO documentary film by director Dana Perry and her cinematographer husband, Hart. The film tells the heartbreaking story of their 15-year-old son, Evan, who died by suicide after struggling with bipolar disorder. This moving film illustrates the stigma associated with mental illness and suicide, and poignantly captures the impact that Evan’s suicide had on his parents, family, friends, classmates, doctors and others who knew him. A special screening was held on June 26 at the Swissôtel in Chicago, on the eve of AFSP’s Out of the Darkness Overnight walk. The screening featured a Q&A with Dana Perry and AFSP Medical Director Dr. Paula Clayton. The event was hosted by Kevin Roy, anchor for WLS-TV ABC in Chicago. Boy Interrupted was an official selection for the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and premiered Aug. 3 on HBO.
