The goal of the American Association of Suicidology (AAS) is to understand and prevent suicide. Founded in 1968 by Edwin S. Shneidman, Ph.D., AAS promotes research, public awareness programs, public education, and training for professionals and volunteers. In addition, AAS serves as a national clearinghouse for information on suicide.

The Bright Side is a website administered by Psyche Minded, Inc, a non-profit organization, which aims to provide support for anyone who is feeling emotionally overwhelmed with life. At this time, the organization consists entirely of volunteers who are contributing their time, money and expertise to creating this online community.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is one of the 13 major operating components of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which is the principal agency in the United States government for protecting the health and safety of all Americans and for providing essential human services, especially for those people who are least able to help themselves.
Centre for Suicide Research
The Centre is based in the University of Oxford Department of Psychiatry. Professor Keith Hawton is its Director. Professor Mark Williams also leads a research group within the Centre. The overall research programme of the Centre is focused on investigation of the causes, treatment and prevention of suicidal behaviour.
Centre for Suicide Prevention
The Centre for Suicide Prevention has three main branches -- The Suicide Information & Education Collection (SIEC) is a special library and resource centre providing information on suicide and suicidal behaviour. The Suicide Prevention Training Programs (SPTP) branch provides caregiver training in suicide intervention, awareness, bereavement, crisis management and related topics. Suicide Prevention Research Projects (SPRP) advocates for, and supports research on suicide and suicidal behaviour.
Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance
The Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance (DBSA) is the nation's leading patient-directed organization focusing on the most prevalent mental illnesses - depression and bipolar disorder. The organization fosters an understanding about the impact and management of these life-threatening illnesses by providing up-to-date, scientifically-based tools and information written in language the general public can understand. DBSA supports research to promote more timely diagnosis, develop more effective and tolerable treatments and discover a cure. The organization works to ensure that people living with mood disorders are treated equitably.
Divine Caroline
DivineCaroline is the flagship site of Real Girls Media Network, Inc. RGM combines real voices with guided editorial and the dynamism of an online community. Through their proprietary technology, they enable members to easily submit -- and automatically publish -- their thoughts and stories. DivineCaroline gives all visitors a variety of ways to engage with the content and the community. Eventually the network will consist of multiple sites and resources serving different age groups.
Families for Depression Awareness
Families that work together are best able to cope with depressive disorders. Our organization, Families for Depression Awareness, helps people in caregiver roles and people with depressive disorders understand the conditions, reduce stigma, and share issues.

The Jed Foundation
The Jed Foundation was established in order to reduce the suicide rate on college campuses and focus on the underlying causes of suicide. The Jed Foundation convenes higher education and government leaders as well as scientific research and mental health experts in order to design effective prevention programs that reflect the best in current thinking. The Foundation creates innovative websites, such as Ulifeline™, which brings help directly to students by linking them to their respective college health centers, and lobbies in Washington, in boardrooms, in academe and at public meetings to reduce stigma and increase services to young adults.
Kristin Brooks Hope Center's National Hopeline Network
Former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. David Satcher dedicated this national crisis hotline network in May 1999. 1-800-SUICIDE (784-2433) connects people who are depressed or suicidal -- or those who are concerned about someone they love -- automatically to a CONTACT USA or AAS certified crisis center.
The Link 's National Resource Center for Suicide Prevention and Aftercare
The Link's Suicide Prevention and Aftercare Program offers services for survivors who have lost a loved one by suicide. The Aftercare Program includes support groups, telephone counseling, grief counseling, and consultation.

National Alliance for the Mental Illness
The National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) is a nonprofit, grassroots, self-help, support and advocacy organization of consumers, families and friends of people with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic and other severe anxiety disorders, autism and pervasive developmental disorders, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and other severe and persistent mental illnesses that affect the brain. NAMI is dedicated to the eradication of mental illnesses and to the improvement of the quality of life of all whose lives are affected by these diseases.

National Suicide Prevention Lifeline
The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline's mission is to provide immediate assistance to individuals in suicidal crisis by connecting them to the nearest available suicide prevention and mental health service provider through a toll-free telephone number: 1-800-273-TALK (8255). It is the only national suicide prevention and intervention telephone resource funded by the Federal Government.
National Violent Death Reporting System
NVDRS collects data on violent deaths from a variety of sources, including death certificates, police reports, medical examiner and coroner reports, and crime laboratories. Individually, these sources provide fragmented data that explain violence only in a narrow context. Together, these sources offer a more comprehensive picture of the circumstances surrounding a homicide or suicide. As a result, NVDRS provides insight into the optimal points for intervention, thus improving violence prevention efforts.

Samaritans USA
Samaritans USA is the coalition of the 11 non-profit, non-religious Samaritans suicide prevention centers in the United States whose first branch was established in 1974 and who respond collectively to almost 250,000 calls annually. Its primary purpose is to further the Samaritian's principles of befriending people who are depressed, in crisis and suicidal as practiced on or through our volunteer-staffed crisis response hotlines, public education programs and suicide survivor support groups. The Samaritans "befriending" model emphasizes active listening and the providing of unconditional emotional support. Samaritans USA is a member of the oldest and largest suicide prevention network in the world with over 400 centers in 32 countries.
Suicide Awareness Voices of Education
The mission of SAVE (Suicide Awareness Voices of Education) is to prevent suicide through public awareness and education, eliminate stigma and serve as a resource to those touched by suicide.
Suicide Prevention Action Network USA
The Suicide Prevention Action Network (SPAN USA) is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to preventing suicide through public education and awareness, community action and federal, state and local grassroots advocacy. The organization was founded in 1996 by Gerald and Elsie Weyrauch of Marietta, Georgia, survivors of the suicide of their 34-year-old physician daughter, Terri. Their goal was to create a way for survivors of suicide -- those who have lost someone to suicide -- to transform their grief into positive action to prevent future tragedies. SPAN USA is a division of AFSP.
Suicide Prevention Resource Center
The Suicide Prevention Resource Center (SPRC) supports suicide prevention with the best of science, skills and practice. The Center provides prevention support, training, and informational materials to strengthen suicide prevention networks and advance the National Strategy for Suicide Prevention. Funded through a cooperative agreement between the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and Education Development Center, Inc., (EDC), SPRC works in collaboration with ten partner organizations.
Yellow Ribbon International Suicide Prevention Program
The Yellow Ribbon program was founded in 1994 by the parents of a bright, funny, loving teen, Mike Emme, who took his life when he did not know the words to say, or how to let someone know he was in trouble and needed help.
