Thank you for visiting the Alabama chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. I hope that the information you find on this site will be useful to you whether you are a survivor, educator, family member, researcher, student, or mental health professional.
Alabama joined the foundation as an official chapter in June 2008 after a number of survivors in the Birmingham metro area coordinated successful Out of the Darkness Community Walks in 2006 and 2007. These volunteers then helped to coordinate a survivors' conference in November 2007.
Our board of directors includes survivors, clinicians, educators, public health officials, and law enforcement officers from locations throughout the state. We are proud of our short history and are excited about the variety of meaningful events and programs that we now offer Alabama residents.
If you have any suggestions for programs, initiatives, or educational endeavors, please contact Karen Saunders at karensndrs5@aol.com. Please join us and become involved in preventing suicide in Alabama.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dan Dahl, AFSP Alabama Chapter President
