AFSP-Central Florida
The AFSP Central Florida Chapter proudly serves the counties of Brevard, Lake, Orange, Osceola, Polk, Seminole, Sumter and Volusia. Combining local and national efforts, our chapter promotes the mission of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), the leading national not-for-profit organization exclusively dedicated to understanding and preventing suicide through research, education and advocacy, and to reaching out to people with mental disorders and those impacted by suicide.
According to the 2007 State of Florida statistics, suicide is the:
In 2007, 2570 individuals died by suicide in the state of Florida. In the eight counties we serve, 490 human beings completed suicide in 2007. That's almost 20% of all suicide deaths within Florida. Many of our members have been touched by suicide, personally or professionally. After completing our own grieving process, we desire to reach out to others, bringing awareness and prevention to our Central Florida communities.
