Cincinnati Launches Survivor Outreach Program

A team of Cincinnati AFSP volunteers went to Chicago July 18th and 19th and learned about providing one to one outreach to survivors after suicide. After a suicide, those left behind often wonder if there is anyone out there who really understands. They want support and compassion as well as reliable information about suicide and its aftermath, but aren't always sure where to find it. Through AFSP's Survivor Outreach Program, trained local survivors are available to meet in person with newly bereaved survivors and their families. The program is not intended to provide clinical or mental health services or an ongoing system of support. Rather, the role of the volunteer is to listen, to let recent survivors know that they are not alone, and to provide materials and information. The Cincinnati office will now be accepting referrals for this program- it is very easy- just have the family who would like the visit call Deb Clancy at 513-752-7040. AFSP staff will follow up and take care of scheduling the visit.

Check out AFSP photos on Snapfish. AFSP has teamed up with Snapfish so to make sharing photos "a snap." Join the group at www.afsp-cincinnati.snapfish.com/snapfish.

Join AFSP Ohio on Facebook. The Cincinnati Chapter of AFSP has created a group on the popular site www.facebook.com. You can learn all about what local AFSP members are doing and keep in touch.

Memorial Quilt- (ongoing)

The Cincinnati Chapter of The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is working with the community to create a quilt in remembrance of loved ones we have lost to suicide. Anyone interested in creating a quilt square to be stitched into the quilt, contact Deb Clancy at moiety6892@fuse.net
