Billboard Campaign
The AFSP Billboard Campaign looks to educate Americans about the serious nature of depression, and to urge those clinically depressed to see their doctor. The billboards offer a website, PreventSuicideToday.org, which contains a health questionnaire and other information about depression. The billboards are currently on display in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area and in Omaha, Neb., with planned expansion to additional cities in 2010.
A randomized sample of approximately 1,000 metropolitan area residents completed a phone survey regarding this campaign. Of those who had seen them, 83 percent of those surveyed felt that the billboards might encourage a depressed person to seek help.
AFSP would like to thank Clear Channel Outdoor for their donated billboard space, and Al Kluesner, a survivor from Minnesota, for chairing the project.
