National Suicide Prevention Awareness Week is September 8th through the 14th.
A mother, father, daughter, son, sister, brother, relative, neighbor, friend - we all know someone who has been touched by depression or suicide. National Suicide Prevention Week raises awareness about suicide prevention and mental health issues.
The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and Jana Marie Foundation have joined together to sponsor two events:
Centre County Suicide Prevention and Awareness Day: An Evening of Hope, Healing and Remembrance on Tuesday September 10th at Millbrook Marsh Nature Center, State College from 6:30-8:00 pm. The event will host art and poetry of local artist, writers and suicide survivors. At 8:00 pm, the event will honor loved ones with a Candle Lighting Ceremony to commemorate A Worldwide Moment of Remembrance.
Presentation: "Suicide Prevention: Saving Lives, One Community at a Time", film "Toward Daylight" and panel discussion on Thursday September 12th at Match Factory, Bellefonte from 6:00 - 8:30 pm. AFSP Presentation will address myths surrounding suicide and how to intervene. "Toward Daylight" is a film about depression, suicide and survivorship in Centre County. It shares stories and offers inspiration regarding life and living. Panel discussion will include participants from the film and Dr. Punyabrata Roy.
