Lisa Holman, Area Director for the Alabama Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, appreciates every chance she receives to speak to groups around the State. She feels that it provides the opportunity to raise awareness,to teach the facts about suicide and suicide prevention, reduce the stigma and to empower people to help one another and save lives.
Thanks to Senator Tom Whatley, the Alabama Senate declared February 21, 2013 Alabama Suicide Prevention Day. Twenty volunteers from around the state met with over twenty-five Alabama legislators advocating for suicide prevention.
The Alabama Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention was awarded a grant to do a pilot program in the Jefferson County Board of Education School System. The project was a collaborative effort between AFSP and Campfire USA to provide prevention training and resources to counselors.
