Welcome. We are the Cincinnati chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

The grassroots work we do focuses on eliminating the loss of life from suicide by: delivering innovative prevention programs, educating the public about risk factors and warning signs, raising funds for suicide research and programs, and reaching out to those individuals who have lost someone to suicide.

As a part of AFSP’s growing nationwide network of chapters, we bring together people from all backgrounds who want to prevent suicide in our communities. Families and friends who have lost someone to suicide, vulnerable individuals, mental health professionals, clergy, educators, students, community/business leaders, and many others energize our chapter.

Welcome to the Cincinnati Chapter of AFSP

If you are visiting our site because of a loss, please know that you are not alone in your journey. We are deeply sorry for your loss, but happy that you have found us. Please navigate the site on your own terms, learn about our goals and our mission, and feel free to call us at any time with questions or to find someone who has gone through a similar journey. While we understand that each loss is different, we also know that it can be made easier with the help of someone who has had a similar loss. YOU ARE NOT ALONE!

AFSP Cincinnati, a Brief History:

Cincinnati joined AFSP as an official chapter January 1, 2006. Grass roots efforts provided by community volunteers resulted in successful fundraising walks in 2004 and 2005. The first Survivor Conference was held in Cincinnati in November, 2005.

In 2006 we moved the Out of the Darkness Community Walk from Ault Park to The University of Cincinnati where the walk grew exponentially.  On our 10th Anniversary, our chapter hosted the 2013 Out of the Darkness Walk at Sawyer Point and changed it to an evening event, which is how it remains today.  Interested in participating in our walk?  Fundraising continues, and you can still donate to the 2014 Out of the Darkness Walk HERE until December 31, 2014.

AFSP Cincinnati is moving quickly to provide leadership in the areas of suicide prevention, education, and awareness. Volunteers are committed to the National Foundation and meeting the needs of individuals within the local region.
