Check out our chapter’s most recent activities and updates:
We are thrilled to be honored and humbled that at the 2015 Chapter Leadership Conference, we were recognized for having a top walk (Atlanta rated 7 of 330 walks) and Most Improved Chapter. We will be working even harder this coming year since we have 2 staff here. Stuart Winborne, our Associate Area Director, has jumped in with both feet mastering her job and becoming part of our 'AFSP family' quickly.
2014 saw many advancements for us. We did numerous education programs including educating the whole Alpharetta Fire Department on suicide prevention and having our best attended Research Connection Program meeting ever. We sent 6 field advocates to Washington DC for the annual Advocacy Forum and worked hard with The Trevor Project & The Jason Foundation on legislation for high school personnel to be trained in suicide prevention. We had our most well attended International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day event ever and hosted our 4th annual candlelight vigil on World Suicide Prevention Day.
Some big plans for 2015 include:
- Hosting a 2 day safeTALK T4T in May for our AFSP Southern Division. On the first morning, we're opening this up to the public for a safeTALK training. After the T4T (training for trainers), we will have at least 3 safeTALK trainers in GA and can come to workplaces, churches and more to do trainings free of charge.
- 6 Chapter Field Advocates will again attend the 2015 Advocacy Forum in Washington DC.
- More volunteer trainings -- our volunteers have been asking to do much more and Stuart is working hard to plug them all in where they want to be and where they are needed.
