The National Capital Area Chapter of AFSP has partnered with the local NBC4 news station, along with other mental health advocacy groups, for a year-long campaign the station will be running focusing on mental health awareness. The campaign, called 'Changing Minds', kicked off May 1st in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month.

NCAC Board Chair, Vicki Johnson, and NCAC Area Director, Ryan Newcomb, took part in a brief 6-minute video talking with individuals who live with mental illness. This video, which can be accessed by clicking here, helped to kick off the 'Changing Minds' campaign.

In addition, NCAC volunteers, Mike Thornsbury and Juli Vierthaler, will be featured in a story done by NBC4's Jim Handly which will be airing sometime during the month of May. This story focuses specifically on suicide and suicide prevention.
