About Metro PD GLLU
The Gay and Lesbian Liaison Unit (GLLU) is a team of dedicated officers that focuses on the public safety needs of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and their allied communities. They conduct public education campaigns on issues related to hate crimes and public safety. Their primary focus is to gain the trust of the community and seek out information that leads to the closure of hate crime and violent crime within the GLBT community. They conduct patrol functions and respond to all citizen complaints.
About the Mayor's Office of GLBT Affairs
The Mayor’s Office of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Affairs (GLBT) is a permanent, cabinet-level office within the Office of Community Affairs in the Executive Office of the Mayor, established by statute in 2006 to address the important concerns of the District's gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender residents. The District of Columbia has one of the highest concentrations of GLBT residents in the country with an estimated 7 to 10% of the population being GLBT. Throughout the fiscal years 2008 and 2009 the Office fulfilled its mission through enhancement and expansion of its programs and services. http://glbt.dc.gov/page/about-glbt
Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays promotes the equality and well-being of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered persons, their families and friends through:
- Support to cope with an adverse society
- Education to enlighten an ill-informed public
- Advocacy to end discrimination and secure equal civil rights.
PFLAG provides opportunity for dialogue about sexual orientation, and acts to create a society that is healthy and respectful of human diversity. Keeping families together is the mission of PFLAG. Our family values stress education, understanding, acceptance, and support, but most of all love, thereby empowering our children — straight and gay — to lead happy and productive lives.
