AFSP SC Chapter presented "Living With Bipolar" event

On May 1, the SC Chapter hosted an event featuring a film and discussion on managing bipolar disorder.

On May 1st, the SC Chapter of AFSP hosted a viewing and discussion of “Living with Bipolar Disorder” in Columbia. The video highlighted people living with the disorder, their treatment, and their journeys toward recovery.

The event was co-sponsored by NAMI Mid-Carolina and Three Rivers Behavioral Health.  Attendants included a combination of people suffering with Bipolar Disorder and other mental health problems, family members of those with mental health issues, clinicians from a variety of fields, advocacy organizations (NAMI, Federation of Families),  and local providers (Three Rivers).
After viewing the film, Dr. Narishamn facilitated a discussion between the audience and a panel of professionals, Drs. Payne, LaChance, and McConnell. The feedback from participants noted that the film was very helpful in understanding the disorder. In addition, the audience appreciated the professional input from the panel. The event was an overall success.
The chapter is exploring providing similar events around the state.
