A memorial fund and a personal campaign, as well as a Crowdrise fundraiser; have been set up in honor of University of Pennsylvania student and track star, Madison Holleran. These efforts have raised nearly $50,000 and that number continues to rise.
The memorial fund has been set up by UPenn Track & Field Alumni. The group hopes to raise $20,000 by the time Madison’s former teammates compete in their next event on February 2nd.
The page reads: “The alumni of the University of Pennsylvania Track and Field team are deeply saddened by the loss of Madison Holleran, a freshman runner on the women’s team. Such an intelligent, talented, and graceful student athlete is hard to come by, yet we were fortunate enough to call Madison one of our own.”
The personal campaign has been set up by Heather Ford, a childhood friend of Madison. Heather will be running the New York Half Marathon in honor of Madison this March. After quickly reaching her first fundraising goal due to the inspiring response of donors, Heather increased her goal from $15,000 to $25,000.
Heather writes, “I first met Madison Holleran when we were thirteen and playing summer soccer with hopes of being recruited by Division I colleges in the not-so-distant future. I last saw her shortly before she turned 19… Never in a million years did I think that would be the last time I would ever see her; in my mind, we were going to go through college together, graduate, and be close friends into adulthood.”
The third memorial fundraiser, hosted on the site crowdrise.com, was set up by 15-year-old Vincent Guaglardi. This campaign was given the name “Run with Madison Holleran.” Due to an overwhelming response Vincent’s fundraiser also increased its goal from $10,000 to $15,000.
Madison's family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to AFSP. To donate to the above campaigns, please click on one of the links below.
