Dear AFSP Community Leaders:
We are pleased to present the Out of the Darkness Campus Walks Manual. In 2010, the inaugural AFSP Out of the Darkness Campus Walks Campaign took place at 17 schools nationwide with 1,500 participants walking and raising over $75,000! By 2013, we had 65 walks and raised more than $492,000! Our goals are to build on this success and have a minimum of 85 campus walk events and raise $600,000 in spring of 2014.
The purpose of this signature event is to engage students in AFSP’s mission and programs, raise funds for youth suicide prevention and programs, create a brand identity for AFSP fundraising, maximize fundraising success and laying the ground work for AFSP’s educational programming and chapters in the future. Campus walks will dramatically increase the number of young people involved in AFSP and the amount of funds available for suicide prevention research and education; both are needed to save lives.
Whether you are an AFSP Chapter, school personnel, or a group of student volunteers looking to conduct a campus event to raise funds in support of AFSP’s efforts to reduce the loss of life from suicide, this manual will provide a step-by-step guide to conducting a successful event.
This manual is the property of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. Please do not share this with other organizations or groups.
Best wishes for a successful Out of the Darkness Walk Event in your community!
