Race for Hope

Race for Hope is the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's (AFSP) charity team for the Chicago Marathon. We give runners a way to turn their training into hope, awareness, and funding for suicide prevention — whether you've lost someone to suicide, have struggled yourself, are supporting someone who has, or simply believe in a future where fewer families experience this loss.

Every team member trains and fundraises knowing they're part of something bigger: a community that tells people at risk they are not alone, and that recovery and prevention are possible.

Team Benefits:

  • A free custom race jersey — add your own photos, names, or words to the back and carry your story past 1.7 million spectators on race day
  • A personal fundraising page with credit-card support and fundraising coaching
  • A pre-race team lunch and a built-in community training toward the same goal
  • A discounted training program through the Chicago Area Runners Association

Two Ways to Join the 2027 Team

1. Charity Entry

A limited number of guaranteed entries to the 2027 Bank of America Chicago Marathon are available to runners who commit to raising at least $3,500 for AFSP by October 1, 2027. Apply below — we'll follow up once team selections are made.

2. Own Entry (Time Qualifiers, Legacy Runners, Deferrals, Drawing Winners)

If you're already registered for the marathon — through time qualification, running 5+ Chicago Marathons in the past 10 years, a deferral, or the drawing — you can join our team with a $1,000 fundraising commitment. Apply below and mention in the “Anything else you’d like to share with us?” question that you have your own entry, and we'll send you a team agreement and next steps.
